onomato is a design association, a collective, a network consisting of graphic and industrial designers, illustration artists, writers, actors, musicians, multimedia and web specialists. Since the early days in 2004 work groups have come together temporarily to work on concepts, identities and projects.

The onomato design asylum is located in the heart of the Lend district – a coordinating office that operates as a workshop, meeting point and stage. Next to specialists and freelancers in Graz there are also onomatos based in Vienna and Salzburg.

Onomatopoeia is a word or a grouping of words that imitates the sound it is describing, such as animal noises like “oink” or “meow”, or suggesting its source object, such as “boom”, “zoom”, “click”. The word is a synthesis of the Greek words onoma (name) and poieõ (I make or I create) thus it essentially means “name creation”.
